How do you approach online marketing for your business? Most online entrepreneurs think they can mount an effective online marketing campaign by doing some cursory keyword research. If they think there is a possibility they can conquer some keyword phrases in their chosen niche, they start writing content and designing web pages to tackle those keywords. This is their marketing strategy.
But there is much more to designing an effective marketing strategy than that. Just like a brick and mortar business, you need to do indepth market research before you can even think of designing an effective marketing strategy. Just look at the large well-known companies out there. They spend millions of dollars doing market research. Ask any market research firm and you will find out that designing any effective marketing campaign can take months, if not years, to complete.
And so it is online. Fortunately for us online business owners, we can do very indepth research without having to spend lots of money. There are many avenues you need to explore when doing market research online:
- Keyword research is, of course, very important. You need to find out how people are searching for the products or services you are offering. Such research needs to be very indepth.
- Once you have selected good keywords to target, then you need to research your competitors. How are they conquering the search engine results for your chosen keywords? What do you need to do to beat them? Is there anything you can add to the product or service that would make customers choose you over them?
- You also need to get a feel for the problem that your target customer group needs to solve. How can your product or service solve some or all of those problems?
Sounds like a daunting task, doesn’t it? It can be, but if done correctly, you will easily conquer your competition, because most online business entrepreneurs don’t take the time or put in the effort to really create an effective marketing strategy.
And even more important, this sort of research should be done even before you join a business opportunity.
Do this correctly, and you will be very successful online. Do it incorrectly, or not at all, you will join the 95 percent of online businesses that struggle to make ends meet.
