As you develop and implement the online promotional strategy for your business, one of your areas of focus will be to create quality backlinks for your website.
Backlinks are like votes for your website – the more links to your site that Google discovers, the more valuable it looks in the eyes of the search engine spiders.
There are many ways to create backlinks. Following are the ones that I concentrate on:
- Article Marketing – you write good quality, informative articles and post them to your blogs or distribute them to article directories. Always make sure your article contains at least one link to the site you are promoting, and that the anchor text incorporates the keyword phrase you are trying to associate with your site.
- Video Marketing – produce good quality videos and distribute them to video sharing sites. Again, make sure that the first line in the video description is a link to the site you are promoting, and that the anchor text is relevant to the keyword phrase you are targeting.
- Podcasting – Take the audio portion of your videos, or simply record yourself reading one of your articles, and distribute them to podcasting sites like Talkshoe. Again, make sure there is a link to your site in the program description or your profile
- RSS Aggregators – not many online marketers think of using RSS aggregators as another source of backlinks. Most blogs and sites to which you can submit content have an RSS feed available. If you submit these feeds to RSS aggregator sites, you will get some backlinks to your existing pages, as well as immediate backlinks to new pages as you create them. Most RSS aggregators will only take the first 10 to 20 newest items from your feed, so these backlinks are not permanent. As well, it can sometimes be difficult to find the RSS feed in some services that can be used to distribute content. For example, I recently had a client who asked me to distribute his Youtube RSS Feed. It was not obvious what the URL for the feed was, but after some digging I came up with the proper URL. This is the current URL structure for a Youtube RSS FEED in case you ever need to distribute it:
http://www.youtube.com/rss/user/YourChannelName/videos.rss
- Social bookmarking – bookmarking your sites at various bookmarking sites and also posting links to your content at sites like Twitter and LinkedIn can also provide relevant traffic and targeted visitors. Using the Veretekk Automated Marketing System, I can now do this automatically every time I produce a new article or blog post.
It is important to have a good backlink strategy in place. And it is also important to build backlinks slowly over time. But it is actually quite easy – just produce some good quality content on a regular basis, and always be sure to include a link to the site you are promoting.
