Online Marketing: Are You A Complainer Or A Profiteer?

It seems that almost every week someone in a forum somewhere is lamenting the ‘end of online marketing’ due to some change in the online business environment.

Google made an algorithm change? “Oh no, that is the end of all affiliate marketing!”.

Twitter suddenly banned thousands of users? “Oh no, that’s the end of using Twitter for online marketing!”

Amazon no longer allows affiliates from this state? “Oh no, how is the little guy supposed to make any money?”

Granted, many of these are most likely so-called ‘gurus’ who are preparing to sell you their next latest and greatest ‘secret’ to making money. Some are new business entrepreneurs who are looking for some direction. And of course there are those who just like to complain.

Personally I never pay much attention to such things. What do I do? I keep promoting myself and my sites…

Online business is in a constant state of flux, and you have to learn to roll with the punches. It is so easy to get caught up in self-pity or panic about the latest change, and to throw up your hands in defeat. But you know, if you take a step back, you’ll see that someone, somewhere always has something to complain about.

For sure, it is not as easy these days to build an online business. I can remember the days when you could get Adwords clicks for one cent, and send those to any website you chose. Or you could create crappy sites and stick Adsense on them and make some income that way. Those days are gone forever. But there is some good news as well: there are many more tools and strategies available now that make the process of marketing your business online much easier. Its still a lot of work, but if you do it right, as I can teach you, you can see predictable results.

Online marketing is a great opportunity, and it will always be in a state of change. That’s the nature of the beast. But that should not stop you from working on your business and promoting it properly. Realize this: the complainers are busy complaining and doing nothing to build their business, while the doers are getting their sites ranked for relevant keywords.

So don’t ever buy into the latest panic. Do what I do: keep building and promoting. If you provide good, keyword-specific and relevant content, you are giving the search engine spiders what they want, and they will never penalize you for that. I have a large network of sites in many different niches, and I have never been affected by any Google algorithm change for more than a few weeks. Give the spiders what they want and they will love you for it!
